What Dubai air conditioning does to your skin — and what helps

Dry, tight, dull skin in one of the hottest cities on earth sounds like a contradiction — until you count how many hours a day you actually spend in air conditioning.

What is actually happening

Air conditioning cools by pulling moisture out of the air. Spend twelve hours a day in it — home, car, office, mall — and your skin sits in dry air almost all the time, with short bursts of intense heat in between. That swing is harder on the skin barrier than either extreme on its own.

Three things follow: skin loses water faster than it replaces it, it overcompensates by producing more oil (so you can be oily and dehydrated at once), and the surface builds up dead cells that make everything look dull and stop your products from absorbing.

Dry skin and dehydrated skin are not the same

Dry skin lacks oil — it is a skin type and you were probably born with it. Dehydrated skin lacks water — it is a condition and anyone can have it, including oily skin. In Dubai, most of the people who tell us their skin has "gone bad" are dehydrated rather than dry, which matters because the fix is different. Rich creams on dehydrated skin feel greasy and change nothing.

What helps, in order of how much difference it makes

  • Drink more than you think you need. Dull, unhelpful advice — but it is genuinely the biggest lever in this climate.
  • Add a hydrating layer, not just a heavier cream. A watery layer under your moisturiser gives the skin something to hold; the cream then seals it in.
  • Sunscreen every day, indoors included. UV reaches through car and office windows, and it is a large part of why skin ages faster here.
  • Do not over-cleanse. Tight, squeaky skin after washing means you have stripped the barrier. Twice a day, gently, is plenty.
  • Keep water in the room. A bowl of water near the AC vent, or a small humidifier in the bedroom, does more than most serums.

Where a facial fits in

A treatment does in an hour what home care cannot: proper deep cleaning of the surface so that everything you apply afterwards actually reaches the skin, plus intensive hydration in one sitting. It is not a substitute for daily habits — it is a reset, and daily habits keep the reset going.

Our hydra facial is 100 AED, collagen treatment 199 AED, sensitive-skin care 279 AED and detox 259 AED.

Come for the scan before you decide anything

We scan your skin with a machine and a technician talks you through what it shows — free, whether or not you book a treatment afterwards. It takes the guessing out of it, and sometimes the honest answer is that you do not need a treatment, you need to change one habit.
